About Possums

Possums is located at 30 Scattergood Place Spence.

Enrolment

No. However, we do encourage families to have commenced toilet training with their child, while recognising that each child develops in their own time. We generally find that children can benefit from being surrounded by other children who are already confidently using the toilet and this might assist in the process. We do ask that you please advise the staff if your child is attending in a pull up and you will need to include a supply of spare pull ups in their bag. We encourage all families to include a fresh change of clothes in case of “accidents”.

Yes, you can enrol your child at any time throughout the year, pending availability. Please get in touch to check if there is a spot available for your child.

We strongly encourage parents to attend the orientation days with their child the week prior to the start of the school year. This will allow your child to become familiar with the environment and staff. If you have any worries or concerns about your child, you are welcome to use these days to raise them with us. However, we are always available to parents during the year for discussion on any issue.

Your child must be 3 years old to attend Possums without a parent present. We also accept children that are 4 or 5 years old.

Enrolments are generally open from the month of May for the following year. To avoid disappointment, we recommend you put your child’s name down on the waiting list as positions are usually filled quickly.

Parent involvement

As Possums Playschool is a parent-run organisation, parent or carer involvement is extremely valued and important. Possums has a volunteer parent/carer roster, where the helpers assist the teacher and supervise activities. While the roster is voluntary, it is a nice way for parents to be involved in their child’s day. Siblings are welcome to stay when parents are on roster.

If you have any special skills or talents you would like to share with us, we would be more than happy to include them in the program.

As a parent or carer, you are required by law to have a Working with Vulnerable People card in order to fulfil your volunteer duties at Possums.

After every Playschool session, hand-towels, tea-towels, smocks, etc need to be washed. We ask parents to volunteer a laundry wash once a term for each session their child attends. The wash register can be located on the board with the parent roster lists. The laundry then needs to be returned to Playschool prior to that session the following week.

Session and term details

Possums runs from Monday to Wednesday. You may choose if your child attends one, two or all three days, subject to availabililty.

Possums runs from Monday to Wednesday (9:20am – 2:20pm During school terms)

The cost for each session is $65 per child.

Generally no, as it is only a five hour day and the children are having too much fun to nap! We find that most children will be starting to drop their nap at about this age and will either have a quick sleep in the car on the way home or may fall asleep at Possums and we will call you if they do.  We do offer a relaxation time during the day, where the children are encouraged to lie down and listen to music or a story and do some slow stretches.
